“All Men Who Have Achieved Great Things Have Been Great Dreamers.” – Orison Swett Marden

The other day, while I was a teaching to a class of small children, I was filled with inspiration. As I told a story, with much emphasis on my facial expressions and voice, I couldn’t help but be filled with wonder at how children’s eyes sparkle when you tell them a story. This sparkle is something different than how an adult reacts to a story. How is this explained? I really don’t know. Perhaps is their innocence that fills their eyes with glee. Maybe its the fact that they have a whole lifetime ahead of them, therefore everything seems possible.

When I was younger, I loved any book I could find about being on a Farm. When I saw this book, for my son, I was instantly taken back….

…taken back to my childhood. It reminded me of my favorite book I used to read “The Four Seasons On The Farm.” It was the story of a little girl who lived on a farm and what her life was like caring for the animals, doing different kinds of chores, and sharing moments with her family. On one of the pages, there was a picture with her looking out her bedroom window. The sun had just kissed the horizon goodbye. You could see candlelights all throughout the windows. You could see all the beautiful grass with the cows grazing in the fields. You saw Grandpa, Grandma, Ma and Pa sitting on the porch in their rocking chairs. You saw brother and sister playing a fun game of hide-and-seek.

I wanted so bad to jump in that book. So bad, that I would lay that book flat on the ground, close my eyes and…..JUMP! As soon as I opened my eyes…I was IN the book! I could never have done that with a TV or a Computer. With the images produced on TV or the computer, they are already there, in front of us…..what kind of imagining do we have to do?

The window of time that we have with our children is so small (even though sometimes it may seem like it takes forever!) :P But the opportunites that we have to help encourage them to explore and express their creativity pass by so quickly. Books not only provide a gateway to the imagination, but they also help families spend quality bonding time together! Books are an investment in building your child’s creativity, confidence and ultimately future!

Seize this small window of opportunity! Encourage your children to READ everday!

Here are some great books on our 50 Best Seller List that you and your family will LOVE to READ!

Ever had an “off day”? You know, those kinds of days where you feel like you are going nowhere – and FAST. You know what I mean. Your working yourself to the core, your tired, your confused, your stranded….if only someone could point you in the right direction.
If you are a business owner, a co-worker, an employee, a boss, a CEO….you have been there. Thoughts of confusion, fears of failure, feelings of being lost aren’t immune to the important and the successful.
So you have started a new business/job/opportunity. It is EVERYTHING that you had ever dreamed and hoped for! You know that when you signed up for this….you signed on to something GOOD. You stand by your product. You use it on a daily basis. You believe in it. Now, how do you get the word out there? How do you MAKE someone LOVE your product as much as you do?
You need a miracle AD. Right? I mean, there are so many people out there who TELL you that they know how to send customers to your website/store by the thousands! All you need to do is download this ebook, buy this kit, upload this software blah blah blah….but at a PRICE. Here you go again. Shelling out more money to find the answer.
Isn’t it funny that when you do read that ebook, when you upload that software – it has left you even more confused? How does one continue? Amidst the dissapointments? The heartache? The blood-sweat-and-tears?

DETERMINATION.

Well my friends. I will be the first to point out (and at no extra fee I might add) :P There is NO miracle AD. There is no “turn key” system that will send customers by the thousands to buy your product. But what I can tell you, is that there is HARD WORK involved to building your business. That’s all there is to it. HARD WORK, TIME, DETERMINATION, PASSION. Those are the secrets to success, my dear friends.

Okay, so you’ve done the hard work, you’ve done the time (working your business not behind bars) :P and you sure got the determination and passion, but still nothing is fully coming together. Well, maybe you haven’t given it enough time. Did you know, that experts say, in order for a business to finally get off the ground it needs about 3 years? 3 YEARS! (And that’s not 3 months that SEEM like 3 years either people!) ;P

So how does one keep up hard work, time away from family/friends, long nights, long hours, for roughly 3 years?!?

PASSION.

You have to have a PASSION for your product. Know your PASSION. Make it simple. Make it your motto. Keep it focused. There will always be “off days” my friends. In those days, your PASSION is really tested. If you shared with 100 people your product, today, and all 100 of them said NO…would you start to doubt? Doubt your product? Doubt what you are offering? Then you might need to double check why you are doing what you are doing. Doubting is NOT wrong….but it is when it comes to what you are selling. Doubt your tactics, doubt your strategies because those are always something you can change and are constantly learning how to make better, but NEVER doubt your product.

If YOU do, then what makes you think no one else will?

Remember how you felt when you got that award in junior high? Or when you aced the test that you studied so hard for? Or maybe you got a “job well done” from the boss. That feeling of pride. Pride of a job well done. Pride in something that you did well. That moment when you feel anything but ashamed.
That’s the way I feel about the company I am with -Usborne Books. I am so happy and so proud to be part of something great. What a wonderful mission we have: “The future of our world depends on the education of our children…we touch the lives of children for a lifetime.”
I know from experience how these books have positivley impacted my family. It makes me so happy to see my son jump up and down, with a smile from ear to ear, when he sees me walking over to the shelf to pull out his books. He literally squeals with glee! It’s great to see my one year old try to say “duck” when I am asking him to try and “find the duck” hidden on every page. The books come as such a relief when the kids are bored and restless. The minute I pull them out we are off learning about shapes, going to the beach, or riding on a tractor through the farm. As a stay at home mom – the boredom and restlessness do set in, but I’m so gratefull to have discovered these fabulous books. They have helped saved my sanity many times! These great books also help us spend quality time together as a family. Instead of plopping them down in front of the tv and not having any interaction with them whatsoever, we pull out a book and spend our time together. (Dont get me wrong, there is the occasional seasme street and a few other shows they watch!)
Since these books have had such a positive influence in my life, my passion is sharing them with other people! I am so happy that my children are so little (2 yr and 1 yr) that way we have about 12 more years with reading Usborne Books! (Since the ages are infant – teens)
Has your family discovered fun and educational books yet!?!

When you see the images of a man/woman sipping a fruity cocktail on a perfect beach next to the big bold letters “It’s finally here! Learn how to be successful working from home!” What do you start thinking? Wishing that could be you? How great would it be to say “Adios” to the 9-5 and be sitting on a beach in Hawaii?
Well, according to those images, all those advertisements you see out there, it’s possible. In fact, it is so possible, you should quit your job now because in three days time you wil have already earned $5,000. All you have to do is purchase this e-book, sign up for this website, buy some materials – you know the story. In fact I know the story, because I have been there so many times.
Looking back, after all the money I’ve spent on “discovering the secret to success” I can’t help but think: If this website, e-book, etc. is claiming to know the secret to success with working from home and are so excited to “share” it with us….why do we have to pay them? If they are so “successful” in their line of work – making thousands only working 5 min. a day (you know you have seen such absurd advertisements) then why would they need to ask for money to “share” their secret? Well, the secret is….your hard earned money that you give to these people- is how they get their money. They have no secret to share, no real advice….just lies things you already know and scams.
In my experience with being scammed a few times this is what I have learned about owning a business and working from home (oh and this information is free) :) When looking for a work from business:
1) Do research on that company. One tip that I would do is google “________ reviews” (put the company name in the blank) Read up on what people are saying about it – or if it even exists.
2) Keep an eye on it (This is for the ones that have not been in business for long) For example: I had my eye out on a certain company for a while. It seemed cool, seemed legit, but then several months later I googled it again and I couldn’t find the official homepage for it anywhere. It might still exist – but that tells me something is weird if I can’t find the homepage website anymore.
3) Ask around. Many people now are part of a forum or group online. Ask people in your group if they have ever heard of _______. You might get some positive or negative answers. You might get people who have never heard of it. If that’s the case that could be a warning flag. Continue to do your research until you find something. Then use your best judgement.
4) If there is an ad that says anything to the effect of “work from home part time and earn 100,000 grand a year!” just laugh and run – because those don’t exist!
5) One of the best indicators of how legitimate a work from home business is, is how long they have been around. When I first heard that the company I chose to be with, has been in business for 20 years, that was a major positive point in my book.

Now there ARE legitimate work from home business out there. Not all are scams. Well, let me answer the question everyone asks “Well, where are they?!?!?” Now I am a stay/work at home mom, so my knowledge is from the “mommyhood arena”. One of the best websites I have thought of to be the most helpful/useful (and where I found the company I am with now – and love it!) :) is wahm.com, Christian work at home mom is also good. There are others as well, remember research :) (Tip: try to pick one that has an active forum so you can go back and check out what’s going on from time to time)
So what does it mean exactly to work from home? Let’s see…sit in your home office, play on the computer a little bit, enter some data, type up some sheets, eat lunch, play on the computer some more, type up a few more emails then be done for the day at 3:30 in time to pick up the kids. Right? Totally – in Dreamland!!!!!!! No, my darling friend, working from home means barely being home (in the beginning of your business). You need to get your business out there. That means talking to people, networking, doing the *GASP* putting yourself out there. It is a very busy, very time consuming, very scary place to be.
Which brings me to my next point: whatever it is you choose to follow – make sure it is something you have a passion for, because making calls, networking, the time you put into it, will burn you out faster than you can say “Im tired” if your heart is not in it. Find something that meets you exactly where you are. I tried once to sell insurance with a very legitimate company. A company where many people have found success. I was a new mother and pregnant with another baby. Selling insurance didn’t interest me, therefore I was horrible at it. Now, I am sharing a love of reading in young children with fun and educational books. Joining the company also allows me to buy my childrens books at discount. This business MEETS me where I’m at. Therefore, alot of heart and alot of passion go into my business.
If you have an entreprenurial spirit, if you have a dream, don’t give up on it. Continue to do your research. You WILL find something you’ll love to do. Take it from a gal who’s been scammed, been shut down, who’s been THERE.

The Window

Today I could feel the weather starting to turn. I felt a cool breeze. There is also rain. It feels beautiful! It is coming to my favorite part of the year….Fall. I remember one of my favorite books I used to read as a child. It was called “Four Seasons at the Farm”. It told a story of young girl on her farm at different times of the year. My favorite part was when the season turned to Fall. There she sat at her bedroom window overlooking the farm. You could see dim lights all throughout the windows of the old country house. The sun had set and it was twilight. You could feel the chilly weather. You could almost hear laughter fill the house. Amazing how a book stirs up the imagination.

So yesterday, I taught Nathan the four seasons, with his Usborne Look and Say “Weather” book. There I turned the page to Fall. I saw the smiling faces, leaves blowing in the wind, and green grass. The little people had on their scarfs and “warm” clothes. And I just got that warm feeling. Well, cold weather means a warm heart :)

As I read to my children everyday, I wonder what kind of memories will they have about their favorite book? What kind of wonderful and interesting places will their imagination visit? I am so happy/excited to read and bring a book to life for them. What places will we travel to? Where will we go and what will we do there? Read and spend quality time with your children. Create a happy place. Create a memory. Create a moment.

Read.Laugh.Create.

Recieved a box full of books for Nathan and Evan yesterday. So far, I have only pulled out two. There the box sits with fun little treasures inside. I enjoy taking the time discover each book one at a time. And what’s more? I love to discover each book WITH my children. Of course the box is sitting there just waiting for me to pull out more of its delightful contents, and I am more than ready to open it and look through every book myself, but I want to wait.
I love reading a book for the first time when it’s their first time too. That way we discover new worlds and places together.
Yes, my children are very young. Two and one years of age. I didn’t discover these amazing books until my first son was 10 months old, and I wish I did even sooner than that. It amazes me when parents say that they will start buying books for their children when they are older. That just baffels me. Certainly, I can understand why that may be thought but the truth of the matter is, is that it’s NEVER too early to start reading to your children.
This is my passion. To promote early reading with fun and educational books. Why? Because I AM experiencing it! My children are so little, but I can see what these fun and educational books are doing for their brain development. It is astounding.
And aside from their amazing development, the quality of time I get to spend with them in a daily reading routine is my happiness. I am a stay at home mom and the days can be pretty lonely and cabin fever-ish being home all day! But when I get to sit with my children and read with them and spend quality time, I realize just how blessed I am to be a stay at home mom and to have discovered these books.
I will be posting up pics soon of their new books! So stay tuned!
I think tomorrow I will show Nathan his a-b-c flashcards – or maybe we will work on the giant floor puzzle together that will teach him how to count. Fun! :)
